Rick Bauerly

Founder & CEO

Rick is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Granite Partners, shaping vision and strategy. In prior roles, Rick co-founded Venture Allies, was in general management at Bauerly Companies, and worked for Deloitte & Touche. A graduate of Saint John's University, Rick also holds an MBA and MPA from Harvard University. In the community, Rick helped build the Anderson Center, a nonprofit dedicated to management and leadership development, and serves on its board. He also serves on the Minnesota Chamber Foundation board and is a prior board member for CentraCare Health and Initiative Foundation. He was an incorporator of the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation and is a United Way Leader in Giving. On a personal note, Rick enjoys time with family, nature and travel, and triathlons with friends.

Office & Innovation Center Administrator

As Office & Innovation Center Administrator, Madelyn manages processes and services, builds efficiencies, and supports the Granite Partners team and stakeholders in the Granite community. She joined the firm in 2021, bringing experience from her role as campus administrator of Little Falls Health Services. She earned a BBA in Health Care Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium. Madelyn supports locally owned businesses and nonprofit organizations, and she enjoys traveling and taking walks with her dog.

Riley serves as Controller for Granite Partners, converting financial data into timely, relevant, accurate, and user-friendly reports for stakeholders. He joined the firm in 2021, bringing experience from senior roles at Otter Tail Corporation and KPMG. With stellar undergraduate academics, Riley received the 2018 St. Cloud State University Outstanding Accounting Graduate award. Riley participates in Rotaract, a club of young, community-oriented leaders, and enjoys reading and watching sports.

Executive Assistant to the CEO

Melissa is Executive Assistant to the CEO for Granite Partners, serving as representative, advisor, and diplomat to support and empower the CEO. She joined the firm in 2021, bringing experience from her role as Program Manager of the AMBER Alert in Indian Country (AAIC) initiative, part of a U.S. Department of Justice training program. Melissa earned both a BA and an MS in Criminal Justice from St. Cloud State University. Her community interests include the United Way, Anna Marie’s Alliance, and the Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center; she enjoys traveling and exploring the outdoors.

As a Recruiting Associate, Kari engages in the firm's recruiting activities to attract, recruit, and retain top talent at the Granite Companies. She joined the firm in 2021, bringing experience from roles at Korn Ferry and Epicor Software. Kari is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Kari enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and staying active with outdoor activities and fitness classes.

As NetSuite Administrator, Jolene is passionate about optimizing systems to create user efficiencies. Serving as the global administrator of Granite’s foundational business system, she enables growth of the Granite Companies by leveraging NetSuite. She joined the firm in 2022 with more than 10 years’ experience optimizing, automating, and scaling NetSuite across various industries. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management. A native Minnesotan, Jolene and her family make their home in Fort Ripley where she enjoys crafting, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Operating Partner

Paul represents Granite Partners on the Massman Companies and Vector boards. Paul's prior work with Granite Partners includes serving as Chief Financial Officer for seven years, overseeing Granite Partners' financial processes as well as its tax, regulatory and compliance matters. He joined the firm in 2015 after leadership roles at Atomic Learning, Hennepin Paper Company and Bauerly Companies. He is a Brown University graduate, and he earned his MBA at the Carlson School of Management. Paul is actively involved in his community through the hospital, the zoo, Cub Scouts, the Lions, his church, and more. He hopes to golf in all 50 states and, happily, is "almost finished" with only one state remaining.

Talent Director

As Talent Director, Angie recruits top talent into key leadership positions at the Granite Companies and leads a next-generation talent strategy focused on internship programming for the companies. She joined the firm in 2016, bringing a range of experience from roles at Salo, Best Buy, and Grant Thornton. She is a College of Saint Benedict graduate, she earned her MBA at the Carlson School of Management, and she is an inactive CPA. Angie is an active member of the Saint Ben's Leadership Advisory Council and is involved in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church ministries. She is personally energized by staying active with her fitness, golfing and traveling the world.

Communications Coordinator

Laura serves as the Communications Coordinator, managing marketing communications and supporting all team and firm operations. She joined Granite Partners in 2016 with experience serving customers and clients at March of Dimes, Glensheen Mansion, and Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, where she wrote communications plans and implemented social media strategies. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth. In her downtime, Laura enjoys spending time with family and friends, staying active, and reading.

Pat is a co-founder and now Operating Partner, guiding the firm's ownership and stewardship of Microbiologics and AltimateMedical. In previous positions, Pat was the Director of Corporate Accounts for Medtronic and a consultant with Deloitte & Touche. A graduate of Carleton College, Pat earned his MBA at Harvard. Pat serves on the board and executive committee of the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation and on the Summertime by George board. In his free time, Pat enjoys hunting, fishing and biking.

As a member of the communications team, Chris helps advance Granite Partners’ mission, vision, values, and 100-year sustainability objective. She writes and edits copy for Granite Partners and advises to support a consistent voice across platforms, materials, and media. Previously a Venture Allies consultant, she brings experience in communications and training roles from Johnson Controls, Alignmark, and IBM. She holds a BA from Concordia College and an MS from the University of Minnesota. In her free time, Chris enjoys reading, running, and traveling.

Director of Tax and Compliance

As the Director of Tax and Compliance, Christine coordinates tax, 401(k), regulatory, and compliance matters. She joined the firm in 2012 with broad prior experience gained through her work with Ernst & Young LLP and as a contracted tax professional to clients including CarVal Investors LP, TCF Bank, HB Fuller, Ameriprise Financial, and many others. Christine graduated from UW-Madison. She enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.

Strategy & Analytics Director

Thomas guides the integrations of new investments, enables strategy development across the Granite Companies, leads data analytics projects, and fosters key partner relationships. He joined the firm in 2020, bringing experience from roles at McKinsey & Company and Target. He attended the University of Chicago, earning a bachelor's degree and an MBA graduating from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as a Booth Scholar. Thomas currently serves on the board of the Our Lady of Grace Men's Club; he is an avid reader and an aspiring golfer, and he dreams of being a food critic.

As a communications team member, Eric helps advance Granite Partners’ mission, vision, values, and 100-year sustainability objective. He focuses on branding and marketing design. He began supporting the firm in 2011, bringing experience as communications director at Anderson Center, public affairs officer for the U.S. military, and marketing consultant for a variety of businesses and nonprofits. He holds a BS and an MBA from St. Cloud State University. An active volunteer for Erickson Merkel Foundation, Eric enjoys hockey, real estate, and time with friends and family.

As a Partner, Shelly leads several initiatives, especially those connected to team member empowerment, and has been a key operating partner with the firm since its founding. Shelly brings considerable prior experience from her work with Venture Allies, the management consulting firm she co-founded and managed. Before that, she was Program Director for the Bush Leadership Program at the Carlson School of Management. She is a College of Saint Benedict graduate, and she holds advanced degrees from Harvard and the University of Minnesota. Shelly donates time and expertise to non-profits, and she enjoys biking, tennis, taking long walks, and spending time with her family.

Joanne represents Granite Partners on the GEOTEK and All Flex Boards of Directors. In 20 years of prior work with Granite Partners she served as the Director of Strategy Services, supporting company boards and executive teams through detailed strategic planning processes. She joined the firm in 2002, bringing significant prior experience from Honeywell and Venture Allies. A graduate of Carthage College, Joanne earned her MBA at Harvard. In the community, she serves on the board of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, is involved with the Women's Fund, and shares her expertise in strategic planning with various non-profit organizations. In the summertime, Joanne co-leads a seasonal garlic business with her husband and enjoys daily walks with her Australian Terrier.

Cindy serves as Board Administrator for Granite Partners, supporting Board Chairs and CEOs in their work to provide effective governance for the Granite Companies. She joined the firm in 2013, bringing considerable experience from previous roles at Leighton Broadcasting and Bernick's. Her community interests include United Way, Boy Scouts and fundraising to fight breast cancer. On a personal note, Cindy enjoys books, movies, biking, swimming, and time with family and friends.

As Business Analyst, Justin analyzes data that can be leveraged to improve processes, strengthen metrics, and drive growth. He joined Granite Partners in 2022, bringing experience in manufacturing and quality from roles at Sportradar and Pepsi. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Economics. He loves sports analytics, listening to audio books, playing chess, and competing in jiu-jitsu tournaments.

Meg serves as Investment Director for Granite Partners, leading the firm's business development, due diligence, investment structuring, and investment operations of new platform and add-on investments. She joined the firm in 2020, bringing experience in private investment and management consulting from Norwest Equity Partners and Bain & Company. A UW-Madison graduate, Meg earned an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School. Meg serves on the board of Great River Greening, she is passionate about supporting non-profits serving the Twin Cities communities, and she enjoys creative writing and wellness topics.

Art is a co-founder of Granite Partners and an ongoing Operating Partner. In previous roles, Art was a Principal at Norwest Equity Partners, he founded and was President of Computer Guidance Group, and he worked for Arthur Andersen focused on the professional sports industry. Art is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he was Lou Holtz's head football manager. Art is involved in numerous non-profit and community organizations. He is also a loyal fan of Fighting Irish football and has a passion for traveling the world with his family.

As CFO, Carol oversees Granite Partners' financial processes as well as its tax, regulatory, and compliance matters. She joined the firm in 2022 with experience gained through leadership roles at Amazon and Target and finance roles at the Chicago Board of Trade and the Corporation for Interest Rate Risk Management. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago and earned her MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. An active member of Our Lady of Grace, Carol loves hiking, biking, and canoeing on the Gunflint Trail.

Investment Manager

Natalie supports the firm's business development, due diligence, investment structuring, and investment operations of new platform and add-on investments as an Investment Manager. She joined the firm in 2022, bringing experience in corporate development, middle-market investment banking, and asset management from 3M, Lazard, and D.B. Fitzpatrick & Co, respectively. Natalie graduated from Boise State University, and she earned an MBA from the Carlson School at the University of Minnesota. Natalie and her husband enjoy spending time outdoors and in Northern Minnesota as well as making wine in a small family vineyard in their home country of Georgia.

Serving as Member Relations, Jen supports unit holders in the Granite Funds through events, communication, administration, and related services. She joined the firm in 2001, bringing experience from her work with Venture Allies, Doherty Employment Group, and St. Cloud Technical College. Jen graduated from the College of St. Scholastica and is involved with the United Way. In her downtime, Jen enjoys spending time with friends and family and enjoys the outdoors, especially camping and boating.

Program Manager

Tim facilitates and empowers the shared governance practices across the boards of the Granite Companies. He joined the firm in 2024, bringing experience in strategy and program management from progressive roles at C.H. Robinson and experience in governance, risk, and compliance as a PwC consultant. He also co-founded a social sports platform and is a co-owner of Rosener Farms in Iowa. He earned his bachelor’s degree and his MAc at the University of Iowa, and he is an inactive CPA. Passionate about the outdoors, Tim enjoys snowboarding in Colorado and visiting national parks with his family.

Jack supports the firm's business development, due diligence, investment structuring, and investment operations for new platform and add-on investments. He joined the firm in 2023, bringing experience in corporate development from Mayo Clinic, private investment from Northstar Capital, investment banking from Greene Holcomb & Fisher (now part of BMO Harris), and healthcare entrepreneurship. A Santa Clara University graduate, Jack earned an MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Business. He is an Army veteran and served as an infantry officer in the Minnesota National Guard. Jack is passionate about creating impact at scale, and he enjoys time with family, nature, travel, reading, music, and fitness.

As Technology Director, Tracy manages the firm's technology tools and processes. She joined the firm in 2005, bringing experience from her work with Venture Allies and Wolters Kluwer Financial Services. She holds both a bachelor's degree and an MBA from St. Cloud State University. She teaches through her church and is member of the St. Francis Xavier School Site Advisory Council. She also coaches softball and is an Anderson Center Discussion Leader. In her free time, Tracy enjoys the outdoors.

As a Partner, Greg leads Granite Partners' recruiting activities and has worked extensively with the firm since its inception. Greg brings significant prior experience in executive recruiting; he founded Schumacher Executive Search and began his career with Korn/Ferry International. Greg is a graduate of Saint John's University, and he earned an MBA from the Carlson School at the University of Minnesota. He serves on the Executive Committee of Notre Dame Academy's Board of Directors and chairs the school's Wellness Committee. Greg enjoys spending time with family, exercising, and coaching youth sports.

Ryan supports unit holders in the Granite Funds and facilitates and innovates member services as Member Relations Director after serving the firm for nearly 20 years in a dual role of Controller and member services. He joined the firm in 2005, bringing considerable prior experience from his work with Venture Allies, BerganKDV, and Bankers Systems. Ryan is a graduate of St. Cloud State University. In his free time, Ryan enjoys sports, hunting, and spending time with his family.

As Business Systems Analyst, Omar helps advance processes and systems that enable productivity and growth. He supports the implementation, training, and optimization of NetSuite for Granite Partners and the Granite Companies. He joined the firm in 2022, bringing experience as an IT Analyst at 3M and a Business Process Analyst at UnitedHealth Group. Omar earned a BS in Information Systems from St. Cloud State University. An active member of the Islamic Center of St. Cloud, Omar enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.

As Human Resources Director, Sara focuses on the development and wellbeing of team members in the Granite community. She joined the firm in 2022 with experience gained through progressive roles at Deloitte, Target, and Merrill Lynch as well as entrepreneurial ventures in career coaching and leadership development. She graduated from Lawrence University and earned her MBA in Human Resources at Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management. Sara mentors young professionals and is Board Chair for Her Next Play, the non-profit she founded to develop women leaders through sports.

Carrie leads the business operations of the firm, working with the teams supporting Granite Partners’ strategic activities, with a background and focus on investing activities. She joined the firm in 2016, bringing a decade of prior experience from progressive roles at Chartwell Financial Advisory. Carrie graduated from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, and earned an MBA from the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. Her community work includes serving as a Trustee for the Initiative Foundation Board, serving on the Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Foundation Board, and volunteering at church. Personally, she cherishes time with family, on their hobby farm, or in the great outdoors.

Micah graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music, and he volunteers with animal shelters and performing arts organizations.
